Union Jack flag to appear on British driving licences

< Back to News Articles Summary

From the 6th July 2015 all British driving licences issued will feature the Union Jack pictured alongside the EU flag – this will apply across England, Wales and Scotland.

Since 1998 the EU flag appeared on all full driving licences issued by the DVLA. A UK Government spokesperson says:

“Our flag is recognised and respected around the World and is something that British people take pride in. We are bringing the country together, adding our national flag to British driving licences is a true celebration of one nation Briton.”

The DVLA will therefore only issue the credit card sized driving licence to all drivers entitled to hold a full driving licence having abandoned the paper counter part earlier this year.
